CIAA organises its 2nd Process Contaminants Mitigation Workshop
The CIAA convened a one-day Workshop on Food Process Contaminants in Brussels on 7 July 2010.
Key stakeholders from industry, academia, National Authorities, the European Commission (EC), the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the Joint Research Centre (JRC) attended this workshop that provided an update on the latest research and mitigation tools for those substances of most concern.
In the case of acrylamide, the Workshop highlighted that the application of the ‘Tools’ as defined in the CIAA ‘Acrylamide Toolbox’ has again made substantial progress in certain areas, delivering tangible results, although it is also worth bearing in mind that not all tools may work in every factory or manufacturing facility or across all food categories.
The food industry also emphasised its full commitment to explore all avenues of mitigation, to follow the ALARA (‘As-Low-As-Reasonably-Achievable’) principle through the application of the Toolbox measures that are continuously updated as the science progresses.
