Brussels, 5 November - "Reduces cholesterol by 10-15% in 3 weeks", "Helps the body to reinforce its natural defences"... What is the scientific substantiation behind the claims that are made on foods and drinks today? How is a complex scientific finding translated into a clear message explaining the consumer benefit? What different constraints do food companies face before marketing a product presenting a nutrition or health benefit? The CIAA*(Confederation of the food and drink industries of the EU) has brought together six food companies to provide Commission officials, MEPs, Member States and members of civil society with an insight into this process.
