The Alliance for a Competitive European Industry has called on the European Union legislative institutions and Member States to ensure swift implementation of concrete measures to strengthen the long-term competitiveness of industry in the EU and thereby the prosperity of the EU economies.
 
At an Alliance workshop held on 15 September, incoming Alliance Chairman Jean-Marie Chandelle and Chief Executive of the European Cement Association, CEMBUREAU stated: "We all know that a strong and healthy manufacturing industry is essential to achieve to the full the European Union`s potential for growth. There is no reason why our economies should lag behind those of our main trading partners. Now words have to be translated into deeds. European industry and the EU legislative institutions must work together to ensure that the European Union remains an attractive place for industrial investment and job creation."

The Alliance, of which CIAA is a member, strongly supports the European Commission`s initiative to develop a new EU industrial policy designed to provide the right framework conditions for enterprise development and to foster innovation, taking into account the specific characteristics of the various manufacturing sectors.  Its members emphasise the need for coherent and mutually supportive competitiveness, energy and environmental policies.
